This is a study of an Iris from my moms home.  I did this last year, and since we are going to plein air paint at the Iris Gardens on Tues. it seemed apropo.

I just loved the way his shadow draped across his own body.

Sad thing is the flowers don't last very long.  In 2 days the top flower went from flowing outward, to the petals starting to curl inwards.  And by the end of the day it was gone!   The flower on the right is starting to go now too.  Used a palette knife, and a pound of paint!  Great fun to capture.

Stepped outside to take a photo of a little one in the back yard, and he started charging toward me.

I like the way he came out,, and think I will leave him like he is.  A little mystery huh?

"Fall on the Carson"
     There is a beautiful spot in Hope Valley on the Carson River that is just wonderful to paint.  
This is done in plein air.   Just close your eyes and add the sound of rushing water......

Went to Wyoming last year, spent a week painting with Gil Dillinger, and Jean LeGassick.

Driving around , we saw a whole herd of buffalo come down a hill, and cross the road in front of us.

It was so incredible.  We spent a couple hours just watching them.  

At the end of the group, came the big males, and they were definitely in charge.

They were grunting and setting the pace.

below is a photo taken of same site where I painted.  This is a good case for why you don't use photos to paint.

As you can see, the photo only picks up a smidgeon of the colors that you can see with your eyes.

I put the path in, artists prerogative to do, as there was too much green for my taste.

Oil Painting

For July 3rd, while at my friends yearly party.  I had the privilege to paint her sister.

She was an awesome model.  Sat for me on the 3rd and then we finished on the 4th of July!
